너의 이름과 주소를 서울에 있는 한국 국제친선협회에서 소개받았습니다.
나는 오랫동안 미국에 있는 치구와 펜팔을 원했었는데 이렇게 너에게 편지를 쓰게 되어 매우 기뻐.
먼저 내 소개를 간단히 할께. 저는 15세의 한국 소녀야. 이름은 이미경인데 이는 성이고 미경이 이름이야. 너희들과는 반대로 성을 이름 앞에 쓰는 것이 우리의 관습이지. 따라서 앞으로는 저를 밍이라 불러줘.
나는 지금 중학교 3학년 학생이야. 학교에서는 국어, 영어, 수학, 사회, 과학, 체육, 미술 등을 배우지.
우리가족은 다섯 명이야. 아버지, 어머니, 언니, 남동생 그리고 나 이렇게. 아버지는 공무원이시고, 어머니는 단순한 가정주부야. 언니는 고등학생이고 남동생은 국민학교에 다니지.
내 취미는 편지 쓰기, 독서, 우표수집, 음악감상 그리고 운동경기를 구경하는 거야. 너의 취미는 무어니 ? 너와 너의 가족 그리고 학교 생활에 대하여 알고싶어. 그럼 이만 줄일께. 가까운 시일 안에 너에게서 답장이 있기를 바래.

Dear Penpal,
I got your name and address from the Korea International Friendship Society in Seoul. I have long wanted to find a pen pal from America, so I am very happy to write you now.
First, I would like to tell you about myself. My name is Lee Mi-kyung and I am a 15 years old. Lee is my family name and Mi-kyung is my first name. Therefore, please call me Ming
I am now in the third grade (9th grade) of junior high school. We learn Korean, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Physical Education, Fine Arts and Music at school.
There are five members in my family. They are my father, mother, sister, brother and me. My father works for the Government and my mother is a house-wife. My sister is a student of a senior high school and my brother goes to primary school.
My hobbies are writing letters, collecting stamps, listening to music and watching sports. What are yours ? I hope you will tell me about yourself and your school as well as your folks. I will close for now. I hope I can hear from you soon.
